Pactimo Announces GAIA as September 10in10 Campaign Selection

August 01, 2013

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, CO September 1, 2013 – Pactimo, a Denver based provider of premium cycling and triathlon apparel, is excited to announce the Global AIDS Interfaith Alliance (GAIA) as their September 10in10 campaign selection. The 10in10 campaign was designed with the goal of benefitting ten non-profit organizations in 2013.  The program commemorates Pactimo’s tenth year of operations, as well as its core mission of having a positive impact on society.

“GAIA does amazing work providing health services that target prevention, care, and support in communities affected by HIV, AIDS, TB and malaria in Africa,” said Pactimo CEO, Frank Kim. “Our 10in10 campaign should be really another great avenue for generating donations and driving additional exposure to their great cause. We are truly thrilled to be working with them.”

GAIA is currently working in Malawi, a small country located in Sub-Saharan Africa at the epicenter of the global HIV/AIDS epidemic, where 44,000 people die of AIDS-related illnesses each year and over 610,000 children have been orphaned because of the disease. In total, over one million of the 15 million people in Malawi are orphaned children. Through their local community partners, GAIA delivers a variety of life-saving services to people in need with a particular emphasis on Malawi’s most vulnerable citizens: women and children. Their approach to preventing and treating HIV involves strengthening healthcare institutions, improving the delivery of healthcare services, and working closely with communities to empower local people, particularly women, in the struggle against HIV.

“We are very excited to be selected for Pactimo’s 10in10 campaign,” said GAIA CEO and President, Todd Schafer. “You can see we chose to highlight a bicycle ambulance on the jersey design. GAIA works in remote areas of Malawi, and over 80% of the country’s population lives in rural villages far from doctors and nurses. For women in labor or the critically ill, this distance can be deadly. As part of our work, GAIA ensures that villagers are able to access healthcare by providing bicycle ambulances. Riders who choose to support GAIA or wear the GAIA jersey are helping rural communities affected by HIV and AIDS access the care they need.”

In 2018, Dirty Kanza organizers added a more extreme option to the event: the 350-mile DKXL. This feat of endurance pits riders against rough roads and weather that can swing from oppressive heat to hailstorms and headwinds. Participants ride through an entire day and night with no support other than what they can carry or find at stores along the route.
