GREENWOOD VILLAGE, CO – Jan. 15, 2014 – Pactimo, a leading provider of premium technical athletic apparel, announces the recent partnership with HOPE worldwide (www.hopeww.org) to support the victims of typhoon Haiyan in the central islands of the Philippines.
Several times stronger than hurricane Katrina, Haiyan slammed into the central islands of the Philippines on the morning of November 8, 2013, wreaking havoc throughout the region and displacing 4.3 million people. The greatest devastation would take place in the city of Tacloban, which would be literally destroyed by a direct hit from the super typhoon. The Philippine government confirmed that over 4,000 people died and 1,600 people remain missing, and the United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has reported that 13.3 million are still in need of assistance.
HOPE worldwide, an international NGO active in the Philippines and directly involved in the relief effort, responded quickly by mobilizing water, food, and lifesaving relief items to the affected communities from day one of the disaster. But due to many obstacles, continuing aid has been slow to trickle into the area, creating serious shortages in food, water, and medical supplies.
“The impact of the recent typhoon defies description,” said Pactimo CEO, Frank Kim, who has first-hand experience in disaster relief work on the hardest hit island of Leyte. “Having participated in helping flood victims not far from Tacloban, I know how critical outside help can be to the survivors. The Filipino people are very resilient, but they will need our help at this time and the foreseeable future.”
To help meet these ongoing needs, Pactimo is launching sales of a special edition Philippines Country Jersey. The jersey bears the colors of the Philippines national flag with the words, “Stand Strong” on the back. Designed to aid HOPE worldwide as they rebuild homes and schools, and provide emotional support to families in the coming years, $25 per jersey and $15 per running tee will be donated to support their efforts.
“This is a very personal for us,” Kim said. “We not only have employees who had families in the hardest hit areas, but we have a history of supporting charities and relief efforts as individuals and as a company. HOPE worldwide is a fantastic organization and we are proud to join forces with them once again to make a difference in people’s lives.”
