New Zealand Academy Squad Members

June 29, 2015

New Zealand Academy Squad Members are completely self-funded.

Paralympics New Zealand supports and encourages opportunities for disabled people to participate in sports. from regional, national, and international levels. This wonderful organization provides athletes and coaches access to international competitions, such as the Summer and Winter Paralympic Games and IPC World Championships.

Below you can see a couple of photos from the New Zealand Paralympic Cycling team that just returned from competing at the UCI Para-Cycling Road World Cups in both Maniago, Italy and Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland.

Those pictured are members of the Academy Squad (the squad between Development + Podium) and as such are all self-funded. This was their chance to qualify for the upcoming Road World Championships which the New Zealand Team is heading that way to shortly. Check back with Pactimo and The New Zealand Paralympic Team to follow their progress!

Participants ride through an entire day and night with no support other than what they can carry or find at stores along the route.

"Most people have experienced injuries or circumstances that have prevented us from riding temporarily and know well the frustration and fear that comes along with those dark days. We count the minutes and hours until we can get back out there, doing what we need to do."
