Thomas Zipfel

Thomas ZipfelKirchzarten , Germany

One of the legendary "Zipfel brothers" from the well-known family of Black Forest Cross country skiers has been actively competing for many years.

Sport has always given the rhythm to his life: Cross country skiing in the winter, mountain biking and race biking in the summer.

Already in his early years he discovered his more silent passion: painting and drawing.

Since 1980 Thomas Zipfel has been drawing for newspapers and magazines in Germany, Switzerland and Norway. Besides cartoons, caricatures, drawings and watercolour paintings, he has also created numerous logos for sports events like the Mountainbike World Championships, Tour de Ski, FIS Team Tour  and "Cross Country Is Cool”.

The yellow signposts along the mountainbike tracks in the southern black Forest region bear his mark, and he has also created the logo of the famous “Black Forest Ultra Bike Marathon" in Kirchzarten. In addition to this Thomas Zipfel is the ‘father’ of many lucky mascots like "Kucky"- the mascot of the Black Forest.

Thomas Zipfel has been given the award "Hinterzartener Kultur Grand Prix 2006" for his artistic works.

Cartoons and caricatures on the Cross Country and Ski Jumping World Cup which have been shown by ARD and ZDF were made by him. His publications of cartoons “Bikefieber” and “Skispitzen” tell of his special humour as a sportsman, which meanwhile has won him a big fan club.
