Pactimo and HOPE worldwide partner to support the victims of typhoon Haiyan in the central islands of the Philippines.
On the morning of November 8, 2013, super typhoon Haiyan slammed into the central islands of the Philippines wreaking havoc throughout the region and displacing 4.3 million people. The greatest devastation would take place in the city of Tacloban, which would be literally destroyed by a direct hit. Within days the Philippine government would confirm over 4,000 people deaths and more than 1,600 missing. The United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has reported that 13.3 million are still in need of assistance as a result of Haiyan, a storm several times stronger than hurricane Katrina.
HOPE worldwide, an international NGO active in the Philippines and directly involved in the relief effort, responded quickly by mobilizing water, food, and lifesaving relief items to the affected communities from day one of the disaster. But due to many obstacles, continuing aid has been slow to trickle into the area, creating serious shortages in food, water, and medical supplies.
To help meet these ongoing needs, Pactimo is launching sales of a special edition Philippines Country Jersey. The jersey bears the colors of the Philippines national flag with the words, “Stand Strong” on the back.
Designed to aid HOPE worldwide as they rebuild homes and schools, and provide emotional support to families in the coming years, $25 per jersey and $15 per running tee will be donated to support their efforts.
