Fredericksburg, long considered the cycling capital of Texas, will host the inaugural Texas Gran Fondo on April 5, 2014.
The much anticipated, inaugural Texas Gran Fondo will have it’s start and finish in downtown Fredericksburg, which has long been a hotbed for cycling in Texas.
Three course options will offer the Gran Fondo, a fast-paced but challenging 95 mile route; the Medio Fondo, a challenging 56 mile route; and the Piccolo Fondo, a friendly but fast 35 mile route. All routes will take cyclists through the scenic and hilly Gillespie County where phenomenal and compelling features make it ideal for road cycling.
“The panoramic views of the area, winding roads and the Texas hospitality will certainly make the Texas Gran Fondo one of the most popular events of the season” said Humberto Olivo, Texas Gran Fondo organizer, “there is a reason why the Texas Hill Country is known as the cycling capital of Texas”.
Organizers anticipate the Texas Gran Fondo will become the state’s premier cycling event, and have plans for a Texas-style post party for all finishers. Additionally, there will be individual timing for all participants as well as awards for each racing category, which is markedly different from traditional century rides.
“The Texas Gran Fondo will bring together cyclists and teams from across Texas and beyond. We have already confirmed riders from the Dallas Fort Worth area, Houston, San Antonio, Austin and other major cycling hubs in New York, New Jersey, California, Florida, Canada and Mexico” said Jennifer Bloomberg, Texas Gran Fondo Coordinator.
Part of the proceeds from the Texas Gran Fondo will benefit the Hill Country Memorial Hospital.
