At just 18 years of age, Stephen Gallagher secured the opportunity to live and race in France. With his first race under his belt at 7 years old and given his performance in the Worlds and Irish Championships he was a talent to be reckoned with on the bike.
Stephen dedicated his life to racing which included time as a pro rider from 2003 with Team Endura Sport, he then went on in subsequent years to ride for Flanders-Afin.com, Flanders, Giant Asia, Murphy & Gunn, An Post/Sean Kelly Racing Team right up to more recently Sigma Sport Specialized and Cycle Premier Metalek.
Stephen raced in Europe, Australia and South America securing wins and top three results during this time with one of his most notable wins being the 8 day stage race FBD Ras in 2008 whilst riding for the An Post/Sean Kelly Racing Team.
Whilst some may look at cycling and see the glamour portrayed by teams in the Tour de France, the sport in itself is the hardest in the world. Time away from family and loved ones for months on end, moving daily from one hotel to another, travelling constantly at times, watching your nutrition and diet every day, race and training preparation and dedication and commitment to training and racing…all this for one sport. Stephen both from his results and years riding as a pro rider can demonstrate dedication to the sport, his discipline to achieve results and sheer passion for giving the sport 110%.
In 2011 Dan Fleeman and Stephen first explored the seed of starting a cycling coaching business. Stephen wanted to bring his experience and knowledge to riders throughout the UK and Ireland who may gain limited to no experience racing on the professional circuit. It was the complete coaching solution that appealed to him the most with the desire to raise awareness of why bike fit is important, the role nutrition plays in recovery and fuel, the benefits of regular sports massage and of course how to train efficiently.
Hence Dig Deep Coaching was established.
