Ann Trombley takes the Women’s 50-54 National Champion title at the 2014 Cyclo-cross National Championships in Boulder, Colorado.
Anne Trombley of Nederland, Colorado, a former professional cross-country mountain biker, rode away yesterday with the top prize in the women’s 50-54 race, even after enduring a flat tire on the second lap.
With the 50-54 classification starting only one minute after the 45-49 competitors, Trombley would end up passing all all but two riders in the previous class to finish her three laps in 32:56. Trombley’s closest competitor, Leann Storino (Carlsbad, Calif./Celo Pacific), would finish 1:02 back. Michele Bliss (Boulder, Colo./Team Small Batch) earned the bronze medal after finishing 2:31 behind Trombley.
Trombley turned Pro in 1996 and garnered impressive results immediately on the national circuit to earn her a berth on the US Mountain Bike Championship Team. She would secure spots for Worlds each year thereafter through 2000. Most impressive, in 2000 Ann would be one of three women to qualify and compete at the Sydney Olympics. Ann was ranked 2nd in the National series for Cross Country and National Champion for Shortrack as well that same year, and has been a continued force to be reckoned with ever since.
